The New Student Orientation is the Penn State way to begin your first semester of college.

Marchesani advising at FTCAP

At Penn State Greater Allegheny, New Student Orientation sessions are held in June and July.  An Orientation Too! session is held on Friday, August 23, 2013.  All New Student Orientation events are mandatory.

During your June or July session, you will learn about the academic structure of the university, including the academic units and the majors in those units, and the requirements in place to earn a Penn State degree once you have chosen your field of study.

During an individual meeting with an academic adviser, you will review the results of your placement exams, discuss your educational plans and design your first semester schedule.

In addition to the academic sessions you will attend, you will also receive your Penn State photo ID, establish your computer access account, and begin to use Penn State's webmail and eLion programs.  These two systems are used by not only your professors and academic adviser, but also by the Bursar (billing) and Financial Aid offices.

Your advising day will be a busy day, so dress comfortably.  Air conditioning is used in many rooms.  Please bring a sweater if you'd like.  Participants will receive a coupon for a complimentary iced tea, coffee or soda at our Cafe Metro in the Student Community Center.  Additional items are available for purchase and may include soups, salads, sandwiches, fruit, bakery items, and candy.

Parents and family members are welcome to accompany their students to the June or July session and will follow a separate agenda for the day's activities.  Parent and family activities are also scheduled during Orientation Too!
